For the past two days, I have been secretly praying that Scotland will qualify for the Euros and England to be knocked out of it. I didn’t tell anyone or mention it anywhere except for in my brain because I very pantang (read: taboo) about it.

But the tale of two nations was practically summed up in two extra times. Scotland was cruelly knocked out of the cup with an extra time winner from Christian Panucci. They really should have won against Georgia to ensure their qualification but credit to them for their fighting spirit throughout the competition.

England? Well, they didn’t play a match yesterday but an extra time winner by Omer Golan gave Israel a 2-1 victory against Russia. The situation is: Russia need to win to effectively knock England out but instead they lost, giving England a chance to qualify.

In the world of Ronaldos, Beckhams and Owens, you may ask Christian who? Omer who? My sentiments exactly.

Pick the most unlucky country in the world right now.

Did Myanmar came off the top of your mind? True enough the turmoil and bloodshed there is so unnecessary in this modern era. But my choice would have to be England. Just look at what happened to them in the past month alone:

• England’s soccer team lost 2-1 to Russia to effectively half-kill their qualification chances for Euro 200.
• England’s rugby team lost 6-15 to South Africa in the RWC Finals. Yay for RSA and thanks to them I now believe once more that lightning doesn’t strike the same place twice, right Wilkinson?
• Lewis Hamilton, yes he’s English, lost his final lap of the race, literally, in the F1 championships to give the driver’s championship to Ferrari’s Kimi Raikkonen. But at least he’s one for the future.

Okay, I’m being biased and thinking shallow here . But I just wanna point out that if I was an English, I’d be utterly disappointed that we have little to cheer about in the sporting arena. I feel you, England…

Btw, Singapore plays Pakistan in this Saturday’s World Cup qualifier game with a 4-0 advantage. Will GOAL 2010 finally be realised?

Perhaps it’s good not to count the chickens before they’re hatched.

It’s official release was on the 18th of this month but I don’t know about the local market though. The pirates should have gotten their goods by now. And I think I shall go take a peep at their treasure chest. Heheh.

Thanks to Edwin and Jiahong, I’ve been stuck with this game since Secondary 1 and it takes an open-minded person to understand why one will enjoy this game. Very open-minded one indeed. In any way, I’m thankful to them. Somehow.
