Come 1 February 2007, Nike will launch the Mercurial Vapor IV soccer boots which will weigh just 185g. Now that’s lighter than $6 worth of Famous Amos cookies. But this pair of boots will fetch a handsome price of S$850. And that’s probably the price of cookies made of gold.
A typical pair of soccer boots costs $70. If you get a high-grade, technology-laden one, it will burn $100-odd in your pocket. But the Mercurial Vapor IV is simply untouchable, at least for me.
The high price is not even inclusive of GST prices and taxes plus I certainly do hope no taxis were taken during the shipping process to the local distributors.
Why the high price? ’cause it’s made of carbon fibre - lighter than steel, yet possessing amazing strength. Mind you carbon fibre most commonly found in high-end cars but now they are being used in soccer boots. Apparently these boots can make you go zoom, zoom, zoom.
But of course don’t expect a slow-runner like me to go zoom, zoom, zoom when I put on the Mercurial Vapor IV. It’s only meant to boost your speed. Perhaps it’ll help me get my seat faster than the aunties in the MRT trains. Heh
Btw do you really believe the clip? A man faster than a machine? Seems highly unlikely to me. The works of camera tricks. Hah!
