It’s 34 days to the Mosaic Music Festival 2008 and I still have no idea who I’m willing to pay to watch them perform live!

Okay, let me rephrase that a little bit - There are no one that has really attracted my tone-deaf ears!

I’ve done a little bit of research, which came in the form of searching YouTube for their music videos, and I can only point out a few notable ones such as the reggae beats of Desmond Foster and the Pete Doherty-mould of Sondre Lerche. If you have the same thinking as me that Soulja Boy is merely a publicity stunt, listen to The Roots for a refreshing change.

But as much as I’m looking forward to local talents such as Vanessa Fernandez and Jeassea Thyidor, I was really hoping that Mosaic this year can feature artistes in the mould of Tristan Prettyman and Rachael Yamagata.

What’s worst for me is that I missed their performances when they came down last year! Dammit.

In case those two local artistes didn’t ring a bell for you, Vanessa was from Parking Lot Pimp and is a DJ in 987FM right now. And Jeassea was in Singapore Idol back during those times when rock music came in the form of mispronounced English words and emo music is all about flicking those long fringes from side to side.

But I heard Múm is good. And somehow I’m holding some kind of hope for If Angels Were Architects, don’t ask me why.

I could have collapse of a heart attack yesterday night.

First the unexpected crowning of Hady Mirza as the Asian Idol. I really didn’t see it coming. My hot picks were Indonesian Idol Mike Mohede and Malaysia’s Jaclyn Victor.

C’mon, I’m sure most Singaporeans are just like me… just watch the telly and see who wins. I don’t even bother SMS-ing to have a say in the winner of the competition.

Even you, reading this sentence as of now didn’t vote yesterday right?

This bo chap factor is what surprised me when Hady’s name was mentioned. I mean, Asia actually voted for him!

Damn it I made a stupid, bad, grave mistake which I don’t even know what the repercussions may be. What’s making the mistake worse was that I thought I didn’t even make it in the first place! Such confidence, while may not breed arrogance, I guess brought me crashing down to Earth rapidly albeit abruptly…

… and I saw a signboard lying on the ground that has a picture of Abraham Lincoln pointing at me and the caption says, “You are human after all.”

Even Gareth Gates isn’t on my side. Why should he anyway? Pfft.

Somehow I can’t get Natasha Beddingfield’s Soulmate off from my repeat mode and *surprise surprise* I’m liking Backstreet Boys’ Inconsolable more and more. I never had their album despite their raging popularity years ago. I went for Westlife instead, something which I didn’t regret till now. In fact, I still have Coast to Coast stashed somewhere in my dusty collection.

And I never understood the goo-goo ga-ga over BSB which is in stark comparisons to the “EEE!!! Westlife is sooooo gay!” remarks. Is it because AJ looks hotter in his goatees?

Those were the times when boybands rule the airwaves. As cheesy as their songs may be, at least it didn’t cultivate a nose-piercing, hair-sweeping, head-jerking, eyeliner-ed community especially amongst the youths.

Bring the A1s, Moffats, Code Reds and N’syncs back. At least Backstreet’s back, alright?

Any Corrinne May fans out there? I wonder how many even heard of her, let alone know of her existence. She has been getting rave reviews about her current radio hit On the Side of Me which certainly is worthy of (a lot of) applause. But truth is, she’s good even before she hit the local airwaves.

I started to give her a double look when I first heard her second album, Safe in a Crazy World. Actually it was the song Angel in Disguise. It was really an inspiration to me, for what reason I forgot at that point of time. So I took the trouble to listen to her other compositions and I’m just glad that I wasn’t disappointed!

I’m not exactly her biggest fan but I did thought of going to her concerts everytime she came down to Singapore. The latest one just ended… and that too I didn’t catch. And somehow her songs crept into my music folder, illegally.

So much for being a local music supporter! I guess I’ll drop by Gramophone to get her latest album… I hope.

Some say her voice is mild or flat but I think it’s rather unique. Those soft and mellow sounds that you wanna hear in your long bus rides home as you look out of the window and recall your memories. Aaahhhh… what a laid-back person I am.

Corrinne’s a big name overseas and I admire her courage to go out there, and tap into new markets less ventured. This girl has gotta be given the chance to sing our main National Day song! She’s local after all… and I bet it would be the best National Day song ever sung!
