To whom it may concern (Manager, Supervisor, whatever),

I am writing to highlight the unsatisfactory level of service that I got when I was dining at the Popeyes branch located in the vicinity of the Singapore Flyer.

I placed an order for a 2 piece chicken meal and it came in the form of a drumstick and a breast meat. With regards to my personal preference, I kindly requested for my breast meat to be exchanged for a thigh. But somehow or rather my request was rejected.

The reason being that I had to add an extra 50 cents should I insist on getting my thigh meat. I tried to convince myself that Popeyes’ thigh meat have to go through the ERP gantry while its breast counterparts need not, but it failed miserably.

I looked around the restaurant and there was no indication that a 50 cents top-up was needed to get hold of a thigh meat. Thus I went on to ask the counter girl about the matter and she hesitantly said “Ya, they never write it anywhere. This one my manager said one.”

The response certainly drew many eyebrows (okay, only two) but it was enough to raise the alarm. Did the manager do this on his own accord with the intention of profiteering himself? If such a top-up indeed is true, why wasn’t it made public?

Furthermore, my last visit to the Popeyes branch over at T1 didn’t have such a rule. My same request was tended to politely by the staff without any fuss.

So what now? You guys will continue giving breast meat, wings and drumsticks and omit the thigh till requested a 50 cents top-up is made?

To make matters worse, your staff didn’t return me my change till I asked for it. Even within that few seconds time lapse, she had forgotten how much I had given her initially.

And as if the experience at the counter wasn’t bad enough, your Popeyes meal is of a much lower standard than that of T1’s. Everything tasted different, if not worse. The chicken, the biscuits, the cok… no, the coke tasted the same thank god.

I’ve always seen Popeyes as a good alternative to KFC, a positive point if you have a decent business acumen. But now I beg to differ, at least for the Singapore Flyer’s branch.
