Will United slip up?

I remember Manchester United from the days Cantona flipped his collar up, to Beckham’s half-field goal against Wimbledon, to the Yorke-Cole-Sheringham-Solskjaer striking partnership, to the Treble, to Van Nistelrooy’s lethal finishing, to the Glazers, and now to the magic of Ronaldo.

I breathe United and will never switch to any sides no matter what happen to them. Maybe I’ll fail a ‘How Much Do You Know Your United’ quiz but I’ll never be seen hoisting another club’s flag.

It’s just like how I still am a supporter of Geylang United since the S-League was up and running back in 1996, just that I don’t declare it… as proudly.

So when United fell to Chelsea yesterday at Stamford Bridge, I say that United’s destiny is in their own hands.

It’s so easy to blame Lady Luck. Vidic injury meant Drogba was freed from his master and thus the creation of the first goal; Rooney’s hip injury; Carrick’s ball-to-hand was interpreted as hand-to-ball; a penalty in the 87th minute; 2 goal line clearance in the last 5 minutes of play.

It’s even easier to blame the team. Nani was immature and so was Ronaldo; Ferguson keeping him on the bench doesn’t make things any better; Brown was unreliable; Van de Sar had little confidence; Carrick was subdued; Giggs showed why he is past his prime.

But I say, look forward United. Win the next 2 league games and you’ll be crown champions no matter what the Chelsea does. Get past Barcelona and you’ll be in the finals of the Champions League. Then destiny will be determined in just 90 minutes.

The reality is that the process doesn’t matter but the end result does.

C’mon United, dreams do come true.
