Come March, it’s all about Mosaic Music Festival

It’s 34 days to the Mosaic Music Festival 2008 and I still have no idea who I’m willing to pay to watch them perform live!

Okay, let me rephrase that a little bit - There are no one that has really attracted my tone-deaf ears!

I’ve done a little bit of research, which came in the form of searching YouTube for their music videos, and I can only point out a few notable ones such as the reggae beats of Desmond Foster and the Pete Doherty-mould of Sondre Lerche. If you have the same thinking as me that Soulja Boy is merely a publicity stunt, listen to The Roots for a refreshing change.

But as much as I’m looking forward to local talents such as Vanessa Fernandez and Jeassea Thyidor, I was really hoping that Mosaic this year can feature artistes in the mould of Tristan Prettyman and Rachael Yamagata.

What’s worst for me is that I missed their performances when they came down last year! Dammit.

In case those two local artistes didn’t ring a bell for you, Vanessa was from Parking Lot Pimp and is a DJ in 987FM right now. And Jeassea was in Singapore Idol back during those times when rock music came in the form of mispronounced English words and emo music is all about flicking those long fringes from side to side.

But I heard Múm is good. And somehow I’m holding some kind of hope for If Angels Were Architects, don’t ask me why.

Any recommendations for Mosaic Music Festival 2008?

SONDRE LERCHE. So young, so talented. Only $40 for students and seats are still pretty good.

I heard Kurt Elling’s also not bad if you like Jazz.

But try to go for the more intimate shows, in the Recital Studio/Theatre Studio because it’s really worth it.

Ok the rest kinda weird. Last year’s and the year before’s acts are a bit more recognisable.

actually he is in my top list for ‘Artists to go for’ this Mosaic. Whether I’ll go or not is a different thing altogether. haha!

why this year’s list is so… weird! I know it’s meant for those underground bands and all. but this time round, they are waaaaaay too underground man.

OoooOOOooooh, Tokyo rose!!! Unless I’m an idiot, they said that Tokyo rose’s concert is free. They play punk stuff but their songs are quite good lehh i think. I’ve heard Broken Social Scene too, but their songs are very strange and I don’t like it.

Have you heard mum? (hahaha, have you heard mum sounds funny.) Yeahh this year’s sooooooooo underground! I think it’s because most of the bands featured are indie acts and you have to dig really deep to find out about them. Other than the two bands I mentioned above, I haven’t heard the rest before.

And, support local acts and go for Great Spy Experiment. Hahaha.

Tell me of any good recommendations! Am checking out the Bird and the Bee now haha.

YES! I HEARD MUM EVERY OTHER DAY! hahaha! and Tokyo Rose’s Spectacle sounds so… american punk-rockish man. I really didn’t expect that from them. Go YouTube it.

The Bird and The Bee is cool in a weird way. quirky I’d say.
