I don’t know what the hell the gahmen is doing and watching the news just now seemed to have confirmed my stand.
Given the current situation on the roads right now - packed and congested - they are trying to avoid a possible gridlock in the future (ie endless traffic jams).
I hate to see a tree when I board the bus and still seeing the same one 10 minutes later. Don’t you?
So their aim is to encourage motorists to trade their vehicles for public transportation in an effort to clear up the roads a little. How? By having more ERP gantries and raising the amount deducted from your Cashcards in the new gantries.
Question - Will that actually make motorists go Oh shit! The prices have gone up already! It’s so expensive to drive nowadays. I’d rather take public transport now. Hell no. Who in the right frame of mind will let their vehicles rot at the parking lots?
Then comes contradiction No. 1 - the gahmen will widen major expressways in the future in their bid to ease congestion. Now, wouldn’t this actually encourage motorists to drive ’cause the move IS after all supposed to make drivers have a little more space (pun intended)?
Contradiction No. 2 - There will be a permanent 15% cut in road tax for all vehicles. Err… So Mr Gahmen, you are encouraging me to take public transport or drive my car here? You didn’t decrease the costs of taking buses and trains, and taxi meters still jumps at 20 cents interval but you cut road taxes instead?
The frequency of basic bus services along ERP-affected corridors will be increased from 15 minutes to 12 minutes by June, and 10 minutes by next August. The frequency of feeder services will also go up.
And for the first time, buses will be allowed to duplicate services along mature rail lines.
Premium bus services will also be expanded from the current 42 to 72 by June, with priority for areas affected by the ERP expansion.

I didn’t know taking out cars, vans, lorries and motorcycles putting in buses instead on the roads will give you smooth-flowing roads!
And don’t bullshit about cutting the frequency of buses. That will not solve my situation of waiting for another 20 mins if I missed a bus. And worst still, there will still be cases of buses streaming in back-to-back like lovebirds on their honeymoon.
Even if the 10-minutes-per-bus promise is met, what makes you think these bus drivers won’t drive slowly towards the traffic light, waiting for it to turn red when the green light was just 5 seconds ago?
Let’s not go into our dear MRT trains shall we? We all know the legendary story of Singaporeans having to wait sometimes at least 2 trains before they can finally step into the cabin only to drop off only 2 stops later. In off-peak hours, the next train can be 9 minutes away.
And some guy dressed smartly can still have the cheek to stand on stage with a mic in front of him saying Here in Singapore, we are proud to have a world-class transport system.
Fuck you.
